Bits and bobs

The following didn't really fit into any other pages. The armbands are here as they're fantasy things rather than strictly re-enactment. There are also some very inauthentic shiny things at the bottom of the page!
Key fobs Wearables Scabbards Braids Rune sets Shiny things!

Key Fobs
These fobs were worked to specific designs. In all cases the design is cut into the leather with a swivel knife, then the edges are enhanced by stamping with various tools. Leather dye is then used as a colouring; it has been painted onto the dragon.

Wearables - Pendants and Arm Bands Back to top
The two pendants here were made for pagan friends. The White Horse of Uffington was made for a druid who looks to Epona, the Celtic horse goddess; the pentacle is small enough to be worn but normally sits protecting the computer! Paul has since done a larger pentacle (not shown) of around 4" diameter, which would work well on an altar.
Both the arm bands were made in a similar manner to the key fobs, with swivel knife and stamping tools. The first was dyed with leather dye and fixes with
poppers; the second was treated with an antique wax finish, and had holes at the back to allow it to be laced on. Other arm bands are shown on the gothic/alternative page.

Scabbards Back to top
The first of these is an enclosed sheath for a dagger - you may recognise the design from the key fob above! This one also has an extra closure at the top of the dagger handle for safety, and an integral belt loop. The second scabbard is an open one, designed specifically for the Celtic sword it displays.

Braids Back to top
Leather is quite easy to braid, with various effects. The purple leather here has been made into a simple 4-thong round braid, and could have a variety of uses. The other item in this section is a quirt; the handle of this one is formed around a core, then carried on as a simple braid.

Rune Sets Back to top
Runes were used by the Vikings as a divinatory tool; the sets here are the elder futhark, one on glass and one on leather discs. They both come complete with a leather bag to keep them in.

Shiny things - Bracelets, Key Fobs and Purses Back to top
These were created specifically for kids of all ages - hence the bright colours and sparkly decoration! The bracelets fall into three main types; those which are embossed/stamped (celtic knotwork), those which are coloured with leather dyes and/or acrylic paints, and those which are background-coloured with inks and highlighted with paints or gel pens. There are two sizes shown here; 7.5" x 1" (for smaller wrists) and 9" x 1.25" (suitable for teens and adults). The following is a selection - we make up the designs as we go along.

The key fobs were a bit of an experiment, the result of a moment of weakness in the leather shop when we bought a bag of pre-cut fobs and rivets. A range of colours and designs; all these, however, have stamped decoration.

The purses were another experiment; basically they are a circular suede pouch stitched to a veg-tanned leather backing. A leather drawstring keeps the pouch closed, and a popper keeps the pouch secure.
